A house, long life, beauty, happiness and status are all welcome, agreeable, pleasant, and hard to obtain in the world.

These things are not to be obtained by prayers or wishes. If they were obtained by prayers or wishes, they would no longer be hard to obtain in the world and will be given no value.

It's not fitting for those who desire long life to pray for it, or to delight in doing so. Instead, whoever desires long life should follow the path of practice leading to long life. In so doing, he will attain long life.
